Congress urges government to submit action plan for Kuttanad

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress party has urged the State government to submit an action plan as required by the Central government to revive cultivation in Kuttanad and Onattukara.

In a statement here, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala said that the Centre’s decision to implement the Swaminathan Committee report would give a boost to cultivation in Alappuzha and Idukki district.

He lauded the Union government for sanctioning Rs.50 crore towards addressing the agrarian crisis in the districts and its decision to implement the Swaminathan Committee’s Rs.1,840-crore proposal.

The Prime Minister had taken special interest to address the agrarian crisis in the district and had appointed the Swaminathan Committee to look into it.

The decision was indicative of the special consideration the Centre gave Kerala, Mr. Chennithala said.
