BANGALORE: The Karnataka Christian Federation has said that the 18 per cent reservation quota for Hindu Dalits should include Dalit Christians too. In a representation submitted to the Government, the federation has said that Dalit Christians were included under the 2 per cent reservation quota extended to minorities. This did not benefit them. The representation signed by the federation chief, M. Francis Jackson, stated that Christians living below the poverty line are the most affected. Children belonging to this section among Dalit Christians got no concessions in their school fees. Hindu Dalit children benefited from such concessions, it said. He said Dalits who converted to Christianity should be accorded the same status extended to Neo-Buddhists and Dalit Sikhs with their original caste status. The converted Christians should be listed in Category I of the Government of Karnataka caste list to help them avail of 18 per cent reservation, Mr. Jackson said. The federation demanded formation of a body with independent charge in matters related to the development of Dalit Christians.
