JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has called upon the Centre to release funds for various projects, including the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana and watershed development works, which were held up for want of sufficient finance. She said Central approval was also awaited for a few special schemes formulated by the State. Ms. Raje met Union Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh in Udaipur on Wednesday and requested him for early release of funds. She pointed out that the Centre had not released the full quantity of food grain under SGRY, while the release of Rs.17 crore was also pending. Projects non-functionalThe Chief Minister said nearly 3,000 projects under the watershed development works in the State had been rendered non-functional as the Centre had yet to release Rs.200 crore for their implementation. Ms. Raje said a special project under SGRY sent by the State Government for Central approval was still waiting for go-ahead. She also requested Mr. Singh to get the second phase of the District Poverty Initiative Programme approved by the Department of Financial Affairs. Ms. Raje asked the Union Minister to look into the possibility of extending the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to all 32 districts in the State and provide employment to the rural populace for a minimum of 200 days in a year instead of the present ceiling of 100 days. The Chief Minister said an early clearance for proposals under the Prime Minister’s Rural Self-Employment Scheme and the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Programme would facilitate their prompt execution. Praises NREGAn official release here said Mr. Singh praised the implementation of NREGS in Rajasthan and that it had led to an improvement in the quality of life of the rural populace, besides checking migration to the neighbouring States. The people at large were satisfied by the availability of regular employment.
