Sangareddy: The three-member House Committee of the State Assembly for verification of scholarships on Thursday ordered the Regional Inspection Officer to recommend de-recognition of the Dr B. R. Ambedkar Paramedical College at Shanthinagar. The recommendation comes in the wake of the failure of the college to secure scholarships for its students belonging to Scheduled Castes and for operating class work on a different campus. The committee consisting of chairman and Kandukuru legislator Mahidhar Reddy, Dara Sambiah (MLA of Santanutalapadu) and Palle Venkat Reddy (Munugodu MLA) reviewed distribution of scholarships to BC, SC and ST students in the district and visited different colleges for physical verification here today. Confiscation of recordsThe committee which visited Nagarjuna Junior College verified the scholarship disbursement file of the BC students and found several lacunae in it. It pointed out that the register was not certified by the principal, which was mandatory and found that several payments were made to students with different names and the cheque numbers were also missing. The committee ordered the RIO to confiscate the records after taking the signature of the college principal. Later, the committee visited the MNR College of Nursing and found that the records were maintained as per regulations. Only 83 collegesEarlier, addressing the press after the review with the officials and district Collector B. Venkatesam, the committee members said that they would like to know why 12 colleges in the district had not claimed any scholarships for their SC students. The committee which was looking into the disbursement of scholarships to students of weaker sections expressed satisfaction that the district had been successfully implementing disbursement through cheques.
