Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial “Destructive path” (Sept. 27). Failure to sort out the leadership issue in the party notwithstanding, the BJP’s three-day national executive has set the tone for the coming days — to capitalise on the Ramar Sethu issue to strengthen its core Hindutva vote base. This was evident from the resolution passed by it on the issue and its opposition to the Sachar Committee report on the status of Muslims. This is a brazen attempt to revive the communal ideology of the sangh parivar. A BJP that harps only on Hindutva to the exclusion of other pressing issues will never be a party that inspires confidence among Indians. T. Marx, Karaikal For some years now, the BJP has been in search of a suitable religious issue. The ASI’s affidavit on Ramar Sethu has come in handy. It is absurd on the part of a responsible opposition party to create unrest across the country on an issue that the government has promptly solved by withdrawing the controversial affidavit. The BJP’s continuing aggression on a closed chapter can be seen only as vote bank politics. H. Ravikumar Pai, Kochi
