CPI for return of democracy in Myanmar

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India on Thursday condemned the attack by military forces on a large number of protesters, including Buddhist monks and nuns, in Myanmar and demanded restoration of democracy in that country.

The party’s Central Secretariat said Myanmar’s ruling junta should read the “writing on the wall.”

India should take a positive stand in support of the people of Myanmar, who were fighting for restoration of democracy, release of all political prisoners and for the freedom of National League for Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was under house arrest for the past few years.
