St. Dominic’s rides on Saaketh

HYDERABAD: Saaketh struck 133 and followed it up with a four-wicket haul to help St. Dominic’s High School crush Model Mission School by 289 runs in the HCA under-15 inter-schools cricket tournament here.

The scores: HCA u-15 schools tournament: St. Dominic’s School 337 (Saaketh 133, Datta Prakash 99) bt Model Mission School 48 (Saaketh four for 10, Hyder three for 12).

St. Andrew’s HS 274 for five (Sresht Dasaradhi 63, Faraz 48, B. Anirudh 42) bt MHM High School 36 (Ravi Teja six for nine).

Schools league: Yadav Dairy 209 for six (Rohit Rajan 50, Abhishek 44, Saeb Ali Khan 43, Sharan three for 39) bt Navjeevan Friends 158 (Venkatesh 51, Sunny 30 not out, Rohit Rajan four for 59).

All Saint’s HS 109 (Tanmay 50) lost to St. Andrews HS 110 for one (Vihari 50 not out, Naveen 38).

Reliance 104 (Shravan Kumar three for 32, Chaitanya Reddy three for 21) lost to Vijay CC 105 for five (Rajath Ramesh three for 33).

A-Institution league: APSEB 175 for nine (Sridhar 59, Vijay 40) lost to IDL 177 for four (Javeed 41 not out, R. Murali Mohan 42).

It’s Visaka Ground

It’s Visaka Ground. The playing area at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal), venue for the third one-dayer between India and Australia on October 5, has been named as Visaka Ground, according to G. Vinod, Minister and President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association.

The far end — opposite to the pavilion — will also be called as Visaka End.

“We are grateful to Visaka Group for coming to our rescue when the HCA was actually broke and not many sponsors were willing to come forward. And we look for continued support from them,” N. Shivlal Yadav, HCA secretary, said.

G. Vivekanand, MD of Visaka Industries, felt it was an honour to be associated with such a prestigious project and hoped to be a partner in the HCA efforts to get international recognition.

Ravi Teja to lead

D.B. Ravi Teja will lead Hyderabad in the South Zone under-22 inter State cricket tournament to be held in Visakhapatnam from October 1 to 24. The selected players should report for practice at the Gymkhana ground from September 27.

DAV School posts win

DAV School (Safilguda) scored a 25-14, 23-25, 15-9 win over Vignan Vidyalaya in the T. Gopal Trophy (under-16) volleyball tournament at the Musheerabad Playground here.

Sheikhpet PG beat Bhavan’s Jr College 25-13, 25-10 and Vidyanagar PG defeated Sheikhpet PG 27-25, 25-18.

Zakeer is skipper

Mohd. Mubeen Zakeer will lead Hyderabad in the National sub-junior hockey championship to be held in Bhopal from September 27 to October 6, according to P. Kantaiah, HHA secretary.
