Mont Fort School takes honours

NEW DELHI: Vikram top-scored with 30 points in powering defending champion Mont Fort School to a 73-53 victory over Sachdeva Public School in the final of the senior boys section in the 18th Hansraj Prabhakar memorial basketball tournament at the Oxford School courts, , here on Thursday.

Sarvpriya Prabhakar was adjudged the ‘most promising’ player of the tournament.

In the open three-pointer competition, Anmol won the honour by slotting 13 three-pointers in 60 seconds. Kuljeet won the free throw competition with 19 baskets in 60 seconds.

The results (finals): Senior boys: Mont Fort School 73 (Vikram 30, Anmol 12, Arman 10) bt Sachdeva Public School 53 (Kunwar 24, Prithvi 14); Best player: Vikram.

Senior girls: Mont Fort School 63 (Chinmayee 34) bt St. Xavier’s School 42 (Vasudha 22); Best player: Chinmayee.

Under-12 boys: Oxford School 45 (Sarvpriya Prabhakar 16, Subham Prabhakar 14) beat Venkateshwar School 19; Best player: Shubham Prabhakar

Under-12 girls: Modern School, Barakhamba Road, 19 (Aastha 14) beat Oxford School 14; Best player: Aastha.

Karmakar shines

A four-wicket haul by S.S. Karmakar helped Indian Air Force to a five-wicket victory over Malik Sports in the pre-quarterfinals of the second A.K. Mishra memorial cricket tournament here.

The scores: Malik Sports 145 in 32.3 overs (S. S. Karmakar four for 22) lost to Indian Air Force 145 for five in 31.2 overs (Mumtaj Kadri 45 not out).

Top stars for marathon

Star long distance runners Francis Kibiwott and Lineth Chepkirui have confirmed participation in the Vodafone Delhi Half Marathon. The event to be held on October 28 is expected to attract about 30,000 entries.

The big names in the women’s category include Irina Timofeyeva, Pamela Chepchumba and Alice Timbilil. The maximum number of running places in each category are half marathon (10,000), Great Delhi Run (18,000), Senior Citizens’ Run (2,500) and Wheelchair Event (200).

Saket in lead

Saket defeated Hemant Sharma to lead with three points after as many rounds of the Iqbal Krishna memorial Open chess tournament at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here.

The results (third round): Open: Saket (3) bt Hemant Sharma (2); Vaibhav Suri (2.5) drew with Avinash Sethi (2.5); Gurpreet Pal Singh (2.5) bt Sandeep Singh (1.5); Naveen Kumar (2.5) bt Rajesh Kumar (1.5); D.S. Negi (2.5) bt Vaibhav Khanna (1.5).

U-15: Dhruv (2) lost to Shubhankit (3); Swayam (1.5) lost to Sarthak (2.5); Madhurima (2.5) bt Varun (1).

Girls: Manya (1.5) lost to Priya (3); Sakshi (2.5) bt Lubhana (1.5).

New State Academy in last four

New State Academy, Pitampura, outplayed Maharaja Agarsen School, Ashok Vihar, 40-11 in the under-17 boys quarterfinals of the inter-school basketball tournament here on Thursday.

The results (quarterfinals): U-17 boys: New State Academy, Pitampura, 40 (Sudhir 10, Joginder 10) beat Maharaja Agarsen School, Ashok Vihar, 11; Bal Bharati Public School, Pitampura 36 (Rachit 13, Rajan 10) beat Ryan International School, Mayur Vihar, 22.

Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh 54 (Mayank 16, Vinayak 12, Sameer 12) beat Ahlcon International, Mayur Vihar 35 (Siddharth Arora 14, Akash Sharma 12); Bal Bharati Public School, Ganga Ram Marg 40 (Shrey Arora 15, Dhruv 10, Shiva 10) beat Ryan International, Noida, 21 (Sarabjeet Singh 10).

U-17 girls: National Victor PS, Patparganj 20 bt Bloom PS, Vasant Kunj 7; Government Girls Senior Secondary School No.3, Sarojini Nagar 16 bt Ahlcon International, Mayur Vihar 13.
