Raghunath, Rajpal shine in the German league

Chennai: The Indians continue to hog the limelight in the German hockey league. In the second division matches played last week, two players attracted attention. Drag flicker V.R. Raghunath of Karanataka, who is richer now by the cash award of Rs. two lakh announced by the Chief Minister, figured prominently for his club, Blue-White (Cologne), netting two goals in the team’s 2-2 draw against Rissner SV. The latter club is coached by the former German captain Chrstian Blunck. The Blue-White Club (Cologne) leads the table with seven points from three matches.

For Marienburger (Cologne), Rajpal Singh was the star, scoring two goals against Rheydter SV. The club had earned promotion from the third division this season. Adrian D’Souza, William Xalco, and Rajpal Singh are playing for Marienburger while Sardara Singh and Prabhjot Singh are part of the Rheydter SV.

Club Raffelburg Duisburg, featuring Vivek Gupta and Prabhodh Tirkey, earned its first win out of three matches when it beat Marienthaler HTC (Hamburg) by four goals two. But it 3-5 lost to Groflottbekar THGC (Hamburg), a demoted team from division one. For the latter, Hari Parsad and Bruno Logan are the top players.

Ajitesh Rai and Bharath Chikara provided a good start for RTHC Leverkusen, which has six points from three matches. RHTC Leverkusen beat Grobflottbeker THGC (Hamburg) 3-2 but lost 2-3 to Marienthaler THC (Hamburg) by the odd goal in five.
