DAVANGERE: The Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular) separately claimed here on Thursday that they would come to power in the Davangere City Corporation Council. Shamanur Shivashankarappa, Davangere MLA and treasurer of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, said that the people, who witnessed the development of Davangere city during the last five years under the Congress tenure, would support the party this time too. He said that over 150 km of concrete roads were laid in the city and a permanent drinking water source had been established by rejuvenating the Kunduwada tank. Apart from this, systematic collection and disposal of garbage was introduced to keep the city clean. Siddeshwar, BJP MP, said that people were fed up with what he described as misrule by the Congress and would support the BJP. He said that the BJP, which had teamed up with the JD(S) to form a coalition government in the State, had proved its mettle. ‘Good response’H.S. Nagaraj, Janata Dal (Secular) leader, claimed that there had been tremendous response to his party in the city, and he maintained that the Janata Dal (Secular) would come to power. He said that the people, who had been impressed by the effective administration provided by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, would definitely support the Janata Dal (Secular) this time. President of the district BJP A.H. Shivayogiswamy alleged that in many places, BJP workers had prevented Congress workers from distributing saris to voters. Based on the complaint of BJP workers, the police had seized a couple of vehicles being used to transport saris and publicity material. He said he would lodge a complaint with the District Election Officer and the State Election Commission.
