The Tamil Nadu and Central Governments have betrayed Pollachi region: Vaiko

October 1 bandh: CM attempting to

divert the issue

POLLACHI: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko on Thursday campaigned for the third consecutive day at nearly 20 villages around Pollachi against the move to transfer 79-km long Kinathukadavu-Pollachi-Palakkad line to Palakkad railway division.

Mr. Vaiko criticised Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu for justifying the move to transfer the railway line from Madurai division to Palakkad division and said the decision was taken for administrative convenience. Mr. Vaiko said the administration was for the convenience of the public.

The MDMK leader appealed to the people to protest against the move that would affect the growth of the region. The Tamil Nadu and Central Governments had betrayed Pollachi region with the decision to transfer the rail line to Kerala.

Addressing the media, Mr. Vaiko wanted the Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project implemented without disturbing Ram Sethu. On the October 1 bandh called by the Democratic Progressive Alliance to protest against the “conspiracy of communal elements” to sabotage the project , Mr. Vaiko said Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was attempting to divert the issue by calling a bandh as his remarks against Lord Ram generated widespread wrath.
