in Gadag district

BANGALORE: To bring solace to the thousands of people affected by recent floods in the State, the Akhil Karnataka Prani Dayan Sangha and other like-minded organisations have arranged temporary relief and food camps in Holey Alooru and other villages in Gadag district from October 1.

In the first phase of the relief programme, about 10,000 people will be provided meals, clothes, utensils, medicines and feed for animals. Many had come forward to donate money and material, a sangha release said. An industrialist from Bangalore contributed blankets worth Rs. 50,000 and funded meals for 1,000 people.

Sumangali Sevashrama, various Jain organisations, Basaveswara Educational Institutions, the Animal Protection Force and the Cow Progeny Protection Force are also part of the relief activities. The recent floods had left a trail of destruction, particularly in Gadag and Dharwad.
