He had discontinued his engineering studies and was staying with his mother VISAKHAPATNAM: A mentally unsound youth, K. Shivanaga Malleshwara Rao (22) died after he fell into a well in the Krishna Nagar on Thursday night. According to the Pendurthy police, he had discontinued his engineering studies and was staying with his mother, Koteswaramma, an employee of Electrical department. SI T. Appal Naidu is investigating the case. The body was sent for postmortem. Ex gratiaAn ex gratia of Rs. 25 lakhs has been granted to the family of a port employee who was drowned while on duty, during negotiations between the shipping company concerned and the Visakhapatnam Harbour and Port Workers Union on Thursday. B. Ravikumar (35) slipped and fell into the water while climbing a Panamanian vessel which was ready to leave for Singapore with a load of iron-ore, on Wednesday night. The AITUC-affiliated union’s representatives rushed to the spot and during negotiations with the ship’s owner on Thursday, managed to secure Rs. 25 lakhs as ex-gratia to the family of the deceased employee. Ravikumar is survived by wife and two daughters. AITUC State secretary V.V. Rama Rao said that was the highest amount of compensation awarded in the history of Indian ports so far.
