Nitte (Udupi District): The Nitte Education Trust will collaborate with the Government in developing the Government Community Health Centre at Nitte. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, N. Vinay Hegde, president of the Nitte Education Trust, said the trust had no intention of taking over the community health centre. The decision to develop the healthcare centre was taken at the behest of Sunil Kumar, the Karkala MLA. The trust would spend Rs. 33 lakh on upgrading the centre in the first phase. It would provide equipment such as ultra sound scanner and ECG equipment besides making the operation theatre functional. The trust would provide health facilities which were not available at Nitte. A specialist from the hospital run by the trust from Mangalore would visit the centre daily. A psychiatric ward would also be opened at the centre. The trust would build an auditorium for a school at Nitte at a cost of Rs. 16 lakh. Two engineering colleges run by the trust in Nitte and Bangalore had been given autonomy by the Government, Mr. Hegde added.
