BANGALORE: In its endeavour to boost quality in education, the Confederation of Indian Industry — Institute of Quality has organised a “National Summit on Quality Education” in Bangalore on September 28 and 29. The summit, for which The Hindu is the media partner, is on the theme “Building Quality India: Role of Educational Institutions”. The summit will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajashekaran and will feature presentations by speakers from Central and State Governments, NGOs, educational institutions and corporates. They will deliberate on “Constraints to quality”, “Impact of globalisation on education”, “Professionalisation of education”, “Academic equivalences”, “Establishing standards for excellence” and “Innovation and approaches to quality in education”. Quality Council of India will conduct a tutorial on “Education Quality Management Systems” at the summit. The EQMS standards are specifically put together to influence the overall performance of schools in the country. The speakers include Prof. S.L. Rao, Institute of Social and Economic Change; Prof. James Tooley, Orient Global; Prof. S.K. Thakur, National Council for Teacher Education; R. Natarajan, former Chairman, AICTE; Arun Kapur, Vasant Valley School; M. Anandakrishnan, Madras Institute of Development Studies; Prof. Sultan Ahmed Ismail, Ecoscience Research Foundation; Anand Sudarshan, Manipal Education; Neeraj Saxena, TIFAC; T.M. Vijay Bhaskar, Government of Karnataka; Prof. H.P. Khincha, VTU; Balasubramanian, former Director, CBSE; Aravind Srinivas, TCS; Prasad Krishna, AICTE; Padmanabha Rao, Rishi Valley Institute of Education Research; Hao Lao, Ohio University and Y.S. Rajan, CII.
