BANGALORE: Even as the euphoria of India winning the Twenty20 World Cup is yet to die down, fans are gearing up for yet another round of cricket with the first one-day international between India and Australia slated for Saturday in the city. The police are tightening security around the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s (KSCA) M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and have banned parking in the vicinity on Saturday. KSCA president Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and secretary Brijesh Patel on Thursday discussed the security arrangements with Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) B.N.S. Reddy. After the meeting, Mr. Reddy told presspersons that 2,000 policemen would be deployed at the stadium on Saturday. He spiked reports that there were differences between the police and KSCA over the security measures. Parking banAccording to a press release from the police, parking will be banned from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday on following roads: CTO Circle to Queen’s statue, Anil Kumble Circle to Queen’s Statue, Link Road, Raj Bhavan Road, T. Chowdiah Road, Race Course Road, Cubbon Road, Central Street, from SBI Circle to Ashirwadam junction on Madras Bank Road, Museum Road, Residency Road, Richmond Road, from Queen’s statue to Hudson Circle on Kasturba Road and Grant Road. Alternative arrangementVehicles can be parked inside Cubbon Park at Kings Road parking lot, from Bal Bhavan junction to High Court junction, and near the Press Club of Bangalore. Pink pass holders can park their two-wheelers and cars at BRV Parade Grounds and yellow pass holders at St. Mark’s Cathedral Church ground. Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation and contract buses have been provided parking facility between BRV junction and Kamaraj Road junction on Cubbon Road, Gopala Gowda Circle and Police Thimmaiah Circle on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Veedhi and the Ganesha temple and Siddalingaiah Circle on Kasturba Road. According to Commissioner of Police Neelam Achuta Rao security would be provided to the stadium and the hotel where the players would be staying. Sabotage checks would be conducted at the stadium and the hotel and anti-terrorism measures had been taken into account while devising the security plan. In view of India’s victory in the Twenty20 World Cup, there would be a large turnout outside the stadium too. Thus, security cover would be strengthened outside the stadium, he said.
