Kheny elated over verdict

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) managing director Ashok Kheny on Thursday said his faith in the Indian judiciary was upheld following the Supreme Court stay on the global tender floated by the State Government to takeover Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project.

NICE had filed a writ petition seeking a stay on the tendering process, and initiated contempt of court proceedings after the State Government floated global tenders inviting companies and consortiums to take over the project. The Global Infrastructure Consortium had come forward on its own to do the job. NICE, in a communiqué, said: “One more attempt by the present State Government has been shot down by the Supreme Court. Several mala fide and misrepresentations made by Mr. Deve Gowda and his sons have been brought out in the writ petition.” A spokesperson told The Hindu that the company had intended to complete the first phase of the project by August 15, 2006, but was stymied by unavailability of land. In fact, “54 km road of the total 64 km stretch, including the peripheral road, link road and expressway coming under the first phase of the project, has been completed so far. The company can complete the first phase within four months if land is given,” he said.
