VIZIANAGARAM: Forest officials have taken steps to save tribals from the herd of wild elephants in Parvathipuram Revenue Division, according to Minister for Forests S. Vijayarama Raju.
Unable to cross
Speaking to reporters at R & B guest house here on Thursday, Mr. Raju said that as two baby elephants among the 10 which were unable to cross River Vamsadhara which is in spate due to heavy rains and enter Orissa the herd was moving in the forests. He said six trackers and the trained elephant from Chittoor were stationed at G.L. Puram and the officials were monitoring movement of the wild elephants. The elephants are now at Panasabhadra.
Monkey menace
With regard to monkey menace at Hiramandalam and Kottangi in Mandasa mandal in Srikakulam district, the Minister asked Divisional Forest Officer, who is also in-charge for Srikakulam, B. Ramana Babu, to use tranquilisers and shift them to forest area. Though it was the responsibility of municipality/panchayats to tackle the menace, the forest officials would take action in the interest of people, he said.
