VIZIANAGARAM: Police arrested 12 labourers and seized 156 ancient silver coins and a gold bar weighing 119.04 grams. According to Circle Inspector Ch. Papa Rao here on Thursday, the labourers from Rellivalasa in Poosapatirega mandal found 33 ancient gold coins and 156 silver coins during excavation of a drain as part of the road widening work between DCCB and Ambati Satram here on September 15.
They stealthily carried them to their village and got gold coins melted with the help of a goldsmith.
The issue came to light last evening when differences among the labourers over sharing of the booty surfaced. The I-Town police swung into action and arrested them.
