PUDUCHERRY: Activists of the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) Anti-Autonomy People’s Action Committee staged a demonstration on Thursday in front of the Head Post Office here to press for the inclusion of their demands in the proposed Bill to convert the institute into a statutory body corporate. The demonstration was part of their Statewide campaign to rally public support before launching their agitation in New Delhi during winter session of Parliament to highlight their demands.

The key demands include provision to continue with free treatment given to patients, enrolment of Group C and D staff through Pondicherry Employment Exchange and continuation of reservation for local students in medicine in the proposed Bill.
