‘Action-oriented focus, not long reports, needed’

Special Correspondent

Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi wants an “action-oriented” focus on issues and not long-winding reports.

He said this at a two-hour brainstorming session of the newly formed party cell, “Group to look into future challenges,” which discussed the possibility of early elections and the Congress’ approach.

The former Karnataka Chief Minister and Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission, Veerappa Moily, chaired the meeting, attended by all members. Speaking to mediapersons later, he said it was an informal meeting. “We generally discussed the economic, social and political issues.”

Mr. Moily said it was too early for the group to specify its scope of functioning or its agenda, but agreed that preparing for elections would be an area of work. “The challenges are in the short, medium and long-terms. We have a long innings to go, and we don’t discuss only elections. Incidentally, election is also part of it.”

By the next meeting, the agenda of the group would be clear, he said.

To a question, Mr. Moily said there would be no conflict with the Manifesto Committee, which would have its own plan of action.
