Sharad Yadav seeks JPC on quota policy
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav on Thursday demanded the setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the implementation of the reservation policy for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Central government jobs.
Addressing a press conference here, the JD(U) leader said the government was not serious about the issue.
Citing the latest annual report of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on the issue, Mr. Yadav said that as of January 1, 2005, OBCs constituted just 4.7 per cent of Group A and 2.3 per cent of Group B services which was shocking.
Stating that in most categories the representation of the Other Backward Classes was less than that of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the JD(U) leader said the figures generated by the latest report of the DoPT clearly indicated that the reservation policy for the OBCs was not being implemented honestly and the situation was bound to take a turn for the worse.
