Navaratri fete from October 12

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The annual Navaratri Puja Mahotsavam conducted by the Navaratri Trust will begin at the Pakadasala Mandapam, Fort, here on October 12.

The arrival of idols for the puja will signal the start of the 10-day festival. The idol of Subramanian will be brought from Velimala, that of Munnoottinangamma from Sucheendram and Saraswathi Devi from Padmanabhapuram.The idols will be brought in a procession from Padmanabhapuram on October 9.

The idol of Saraswathi Devi will be kept at the Navaratri Mandapam, Subramanian at Aryasala temple, and Munnoottinnangamma at Chenthitta temple. Poojas will be performed for 10 days from October 12.A nine-day music festival has also been arranged at the Navaratri Mandapam as part of the event.

The public would be allowed to view the idol at specified times during morning, evening and night. The public will also be permitted to sing devotional songs individually or in groups at the mandapam in the mornings.

The puja mahotsavam will come to a close on October 21, Vijayadasami day. On that day, the trust has made arrangements to initiate children into the world of letters and music. The music festival will begin with a concert by Prince Rama Varma on October 12.
