War of words precedes battle on the ground
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The war cries have begun. The Australian cricket team, the reigning ODI champions, have always thrived on gaining the psychological edge early on. And Ponting and Co. have wasted little time doing that.
“India’s win at the ICC Twenty20 World Cup is history now…” sneered Captain Ponting said in his very first interaction with the media. Bangalore’s very own Robin Uthappa countered:
“If our recent triumph is history…then Australia’s World Cup win in West Indies is also history.” Sreesanth, aggro personified, is sure to be targeted by the Aussies. On field sledging has been Aussies’ hallmark. And to say that they are bad losers - whining on losing the semi-final to India at Durban in the Twenty20 championship, is an understatement. Pressure is bound to be on the Indians as well.
But one of the positives after Mahendra Singh Dhoni elevation to the captaincy has been the positive body language from the players.
