KASARAGOD: Private bus services between Kasaragod and Mangalore through the Kasaragod-Mangalore highway was disrupted on Friday following attacks on inter-State private express buses at Kunchathoor Mada on the route on Thursday night. The attack on buses occurred after a motorist Moideen (40), a resident of Vorkady, Manjeswar, was killed when a speeding private bus hit his bike at Kunchathoor Mada on Thursday night. This was the second time in 15 days that private buses were stopping services between Kasaragod and Mangalore. The bus services through the route were stopped on September 15. Accidents involving speeding buses have become a routine affair here. Of late, the public have started attacking private buses after every accident. On Thursday, a large number of people assembled in the area after the accident and started attacking private buses. Later, the police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the mob. Some local people, including an autorickshaw driver, suffered injuries in the police action. Private bus operators stopped the services soon after the incident. A hartal was observed at Kunchathoor on Friday following a call by autorickshaw drivers against the police lathi-charge.
