Alappuzha
ALAPPUZHA: A district Police Complaint Authority has been set up in Alappuzha with effect from Friday. The Authority will receive complaints from the public on police officers starting from police constables to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police. Members of the public having complaints, ranging from torture in police stations to any other matter concerning the police, can submit their complaints either in person or by post to the Secretary, District Police Complaint Authority, District Collectorate, Alappuzha. Those submitting complaints in person have to obtain acknowledgement receipts while those sending complaints by post will receive these by post itself. Complaints on police officers from the rank of the Superintendent of Police and above have to be sent to the State Police Complaint Authority. Retired District Judge N. Mohandas is the Alappuzha district authority’s chairman while the in-charge District Collector E.K. Kunji Ananthan and District Superintendent of Police E.J. Jayaraj are members. The authority will not receive complaints submitted without proper addresses of the complainant, according to an official release.
