MALAPPURAM: All government schools in the State will get wireless broadband Internet connectivity by the next academic year. Director of Public Instruction M. Sivasankar said the full potential of information technology will be utilised for school education in the years to come. Inaugurating a seminar on ‘convergence of DPI, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) SSA and SCERT,’ organised by the Calicut University’s Department of Adult, Continuing Education and Extension Services (ACEES) on the university campus at Tenhipalam on Friday, Mr. Sivasankar expressed angst at the dwindling number of children in government and aided schools. The spurt in private English schools has resulted in unhealthy trends as teaching intensive English and computer at primary level in some government and aided schools, he said. He said it was criminal to thrust computer programming on fifth standard students. ACEES director C. Naseema welcomed the gathering. C. Balakrishnan Nambiar, principal of the Devaki Amma Memorial Teacher Education College, Chelembra presided over the seminar. A presentation on Sarva Siksha Abhiyan was made by State project director B. Vijayakumar.
