Need for setting up intra-college, inter-college connectivity “Very tough stance” on those resisting automation PUDUCHERRY: The Government will give priority for establishing internet connectivity within colleges, Jayanta Kumar Ray, Director, Directorate of Higher and Technical Education said here on Friday. In his keynote address at a workshop for college principals on “Automation of College Administration and Networking between Colleges”, organised by the UGC-Academic Staff College, Pondicherry University, Mr. Ray said there was a need for setting up intra-college and inter-college connectivity. “There is no constraint of funds in the government for such projects,” he added. Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor J.A.K. Tareen, in his presidential address, urged colleges to form a common portal to communicate with other colleges and with with the university. He said if managements resisted automation, the university would take a “very tough stance.” In his special address, the university’s Director of Studies, S. Kuppuswami, said by next year the university would become a 100 per cent paperless digital campus with wireless connectivity. This, he said, would eliminate administrative delays. Former Chairman, National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore, A. Gnanam said teachers should understand the significance of the virtual era.
