Media to educate people about welfare schemes

Madhya Pradesh to arm PR department with better resources


Fifty news capsules aired through public broadcaster, local and national channels

Special video films produced on health schemes and community participation in development


Bhopal: In a move to ensure effective dissemination of information about governmental schemes in rural areas, Madhya Pradesh Government has decided to arm the public relations department with better resources and facilities besides mooting on formulating a comprehensive policy in this regard.

Minister of State for Culture and Public Relations, Laxmikant Sharma while addressing a meeting of the advisory committee on Friday at the State secretariat stated this.

Greater cooperation of electronic media and cable operators would be sought for disseminating information about welfare schemes. Besides, the folk media involving street plays, puppeteering and cultural troupes would be put to the best use thus helping in efficient execution of work carried out by the public relation department, Mr. Sharma said.

A comprehensive policy would be formulated for this, he added.

Besides, fifty news capsules related to different religious and tourism spots as well as development activities have been produced and aired through public broadcaster and other local and national channels, Secretary and Commissioner, Public Relations Manoj Shrivastava informed the meeting.

Also, special video films have been produced on different panchayats held at the Chief Minister’s residence involving health schemes, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and community participation in development for educating people regarding these schemes, Mr. Shrivastava said.

Meanwhile, the website of public relations department has grown quite popular with the number of monthly user hits running into lakhs. In addition to Hindi and English the press notes in Urdu and Sanskrit are also available on this website.

It is being visited in other countries as well, Mr. Shrivastav said.

Also, the process of issuing advertisements has been made more transparent. The status advertisement bill payment is available on the website, he informed.

A new advertisement policy has been introduced for releasing advertisements to newspapers and magazines. Information about community radio broadcast, information camps and exhibitions in tribal areas was also given at the meeting. -- PTI
