Attack a sequel to recent political clashes, say people Case registered against 12 IUML workers TIRUR: Four workers of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) were injured in an attack by Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) men at Paravanna, near here, on Friday, the police said. The attack took place at 1.30 p.m., soon after Friday prayers, in Velapuram Juma Masjid compound. The police said nearly a dozen Muslim League activists attacked the CPI(M) workers with iron rods and sharp weapons as they were coming out of the mosque after the prayers. There was no immediate provocation. Local people said the attack was a belated sequel to a series of political clashes that took place between the two parties along the coast of Malappuram a few months ago. The police said Kasim, 48, son of Moideen; Mohammed Ali, 45, son of Moideen; Sulaiman, 30, son of Moideen Bava; and Bilal, 15, son of Kasim; were thrashed up by the IUML men. Sulaiman has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, with injuries on his head. The others have been admitted to the Government Taluk Hospital, Tirur. The police registered a case against nearly 12 IUML men, including Bhirar, Siddeeque, Alikutty, Gafoor and Abdul Rahman. One of them was reportedly arrested. The police refused to give the name. The attack after Friday prayers came as a shock to the people, especially as they were preparing for the final phase of Ramzan.
