KURNOOL: K.M. Cherian, the doctor who conducted the first bypass surgery in the country, will take part in the World Heart Day celebrations here on September 30. Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Chakrapani will also attend the function.
Talking to reporters here on Friday, P. Chandrasekhar, head of department of cardiology and secretary of Kurnool Heart Foundation, said to educate public about heart disease and control the growing number of heart-related deaths, the World Heart Day was introduced in 2000. He said neglect of diabetes and high blood pressure led to heart problems. One could protect the heart by taking a balanced diet rich in vegetables and fruits. Lifestyle modification played an important role in protecting the heart.
