NEW DELHI: Deeksha guided Jammu & Kashmir to a stunning 2-0 victory over Punjab in the junior girls’ quarterfinals of the North Zone inter-state badminton championship at the Karnail Singh Stadium here on Friday. Deeksha won her singles against Shehnaz in three games before joining hands with Akansha in the doubles to complete J&K’s surprising victory. The results (quarterfinals): Men: Chandigarh beat Rajasthan 3-0 (Pankaj Nathani bt Ankush Joshi 21-15, 22-20; Vivek Sharma bt Vikrant Chawat 21-14, 15-21, 21-13; Ashish Sharma and Pankaj Nathani bt Raj Saraswat and Prem Singh 21-16, 21-14). Punjab beat Jammu & Kashmir 3-1 (Mayank Behal bt Vikram Saini 21-14, 21-17; Lakhwinder Singh lost to Vipul Saini 22-20, 20-22, 19-21; Opinder Pal Singh and Mayank Behal bt Avinash Sharma and Rahul Sharma 21-13, 21-18; Raj Kumar bt Rahul Sharma 18-21, 21-17, 21-18). Women: Punjab beat Jammu & Kashmir 2-0 (Sehar Chadha bt Deeksha 21-8, 21-11; Sehar and Amritpal bt Deeksha and Akansha 21-19, 21-16). Chandigarh beat Rajasthan 2-0 (Manju bt Niharika 21-12, 21-6; Manju and Navita Thakur bt Kritika Gautam and Niharika 21-15, 21-16). Junior boys: Punjab beat Rajasthan 2-0 (Gurbaksh Singh bt Prem Singh 19-21, 21-16, 21-19; Raj Kumar and Pranav Chopra bt Prem Singh and Ankit Arora 21-8, 21-18). Junior girls: Rajasthan beat Himachal Pradesh 2-1 (Radhika Singh lost to Arzoo Thakur 14-21, 15-21; Radhika singh and Faiza Khan bt Arzoo Thakur and Shruti Patiyal 22-20, 21-12; Faiza bt Shruti 21-17, 25-23). Jammu & Kashmir beat Punjab 2-0 (Deeksha bt Shehnaz 21-14, 6-21, 21-9; Deeksha and Akansha bt Saachi Sood and Dipreet 21-10, 21-15).
