BANGALORE: The second seed, Mohit J. Mayur and unseeded Anushka Bhargava claimed the boys and girls singles titles respectively in the Asian Tennis Federation under-14 junior ranking championship which concluded at Bowring Institute courts here on Friday. In an engrossing boys’ final, Mohit , with his consistent returns, had the measure of mercurial top seed from Delhi, Rohit Bhist 6-4, 6-4 in 70 minutes while Anushka coasted to a 6-3, 6-2 win over B. Soujayna in the girls’ final. Anuskha made her maiden triumph in ATF a memorable one when she teamed up with Soujanya to bag the doubles title as well. The AP pair beat V.K.C. Visesh and Zainab Sajjad Ali 6-7(3), 7-5, 10-8 (super tie-breaker). After trading breaks early in the first set, the Chennai lad, Mohit surged to a 5-3 lead and survived a break in the ninth game and sealed the set, cracking Rohit in the 10th game. Rohit’s woes continued in the second set also. Mohit despite dropping his serve early, struck back with a decisive break in the 10th game. Though he netted on the match point, which tied the game at deuce, Mohit blasted a forehand winner and grabbed the set and title as Rohit swiped over the sidelines. For Anushka Bhargava, the victory came easier than expected. “I played well, but I have to admit Soujanya made it easier for me as she is nursing a leg cramp”, said the champion from Hyderabad. The results (all finals): Boys singles: Mohit J. Mayur bt Rohit Bhist 6-4, 6-4. Doubles: Rohit Bhist & Ronit Bhist bt Digvijay Singh & R. Ram Kumar 2-6, 6-1, 10-5 (super tie-break). Girls’ singles: Anushka Bhargava bt B. Soujanya 6-3, 6-2. Doubles: Anushka & Soujanya bt Soujanya bt V.K.C. Visesh & Zainab Sajjad Ali 6-7(3), 7-5, 10-4.
