Highway to be widened

BERHAMPUR: The 41-km stretch of State Highway Number 17 between Berhampur and Taptapani, tourism resort would be widened and renovated at a cost of Rs. 80 crores.

Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) of southern division Satyabrata Sahu, convened a meeting on Friday to discuss the displacement and rehabilitation process for this road modernisation work. The concerned officials and chief engineer of Orissa State Road Projects Jayamanagal Nayak attended the meeting.

Thie project would be taken up with financial help of the World Bank. Mr Nayak said similar renovation and modernisation projects are being taken up on 900 kms of State Highway in the State.

The work on the widening and renovation of the Berhampur-Taptapani road would be started next month. As per plans it is to be completed within next one year with an investment of around Rs 80 crores.
