Governor Murlidhar C. Bhandare with Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai, and President of the ICAI Sunil H. Talai at the inaugural session in Bhubaneswar on Friday. BHUBNESWAR: Orissa Governor M.C. Bhandare on Friday called upon the chartered accounts to look beyond auditing and accounting and play a pioneering role of the true partners in the national development by enhancing the momentum of economic activities. Inaugurating a two-day national conference on ‘Excelling in Accounting Profession â A Road Map’ here, Mr. Bhandare said the profession should realise its social responsibility in order to play a better role in the development process. The Governor expressed satisfaction that that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) made continuing professional education (CPE) mandatory for its members in practice and for the year 2007 members will have to earn 20 hours of CPE credit by undergoing approved learning activities. Referring to the theme of the conference, Mr. Bhandare said it was most relevant for deliberation in the present scenario in view of the enormous challenges in the chartered accountancy profession was going to face due to rapid changes in technology, corporate culture and society’s increasing expectation. With opportunities on the increase, the cha tered accountants were expected to be more innovative in facing the challenges of times and aim at higher targets to become the best in the accounting world, Mr. Bhandare observed. He congratulated the Bhubaneswar Branch of Eastern India Regional Council of India for organising the conference. The Bhubaneswar Branch that was started in 1982-83 had grown considerably to become one of the largest branches of Eastern Region with over 500 members, he observed.
