Robbers strike at bank in Rourkela

Special Correspondent

BHUBNESWAR: A sum of Rs. 35 lakhs was looted by a group of armed men from a branch of UCO Bank in Rourkela on Friday. The robbers entered the bank located in the Station Bazaar area of Rourkela as soon as the bank opened at 9.55 a.m. They locked the bank staff and customers in a room and looted the cash. The robbers, who interacted in Hindi, threatened to kill the bank staff if they raised an alarm or informed the police. They closed the main entrance of the bank from inside to carry out their operation.

The process of opening the strong room and looting the money continued for nearly 30 minutes with nobody outside the bank being able to know what was going on inside. The police were informed only after the robbers fled the spot with the cash in their hands. The local police have registered a case and are investigating into the matter.
