DEHRA DUN: Three persons were killed as debris of a landslide demolished their house at Loharkhet village in Almora district and a trekker from Gujarat was killed and three others injured by debris that came crashing on them near Sela village in Dharchula area of Pithoragarh during the past 24 hours. The injured have been rescued by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and are being treated at the New Sobla Base Camp, the State Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre here said. Trekkers strandedMeanwhile, eight trekkers—four of them Russians--continued to be stuck at Raj Padaun on the Harsil-Mana trekking route for the second successive day on Friday as the military helicopter deployed to rescue them could not fly due to hostile weather conditions, said Chamoli District Magistrate D. S. Gabriyal, adding that all efforts would be made to rescue the team. The sudden heavy rains and snowfall in the higher reaches have badly affected the locals as well as tourists and efforts are being made to restore roads that have been blocked by landslides in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Almora, Pithoragarh and Champawat areas of the State, a senior official here said.
