Pledge to save Yamuna

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A large number of people gathered at Surdas Ghat near Wazirabad here on Friday to celebrate the birth centenary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and pledged to save the Yamuna from encroachments.

A “havan” was organised in the morning by the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Brigade, which later honoured the two Yamuna Satyagrahis, Kapil Mishra and Sunil Prabhakar, who had stormed into the Delhi Assembly recently and raised the issue of constructions being allowed on the floodplains of the Yamuna.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh Brigade president Mukesh Dabas said: “The concrete encroachment on the Yamuna will deepen the water crisis in city and encourage private water companies.”
