HYDERABAD: The Fire Services Department will acquire new equipment worth Rs.20 crore to effectively carry out fire-fighting operations.
They include three hydraulic platforms, hazmat vehicle to deal with chemically hazardous substances, two motorcycle-borne fire-fighting vehicles and a jeep-borne advanced technology vehicle.
Besides, a unit with 36 commandos has been set up to rescue people trapped in buildings caught in fire.
According to Director-General, Fire Services, A. K. Khan, a hazmat vehicle would be pressed into service to prevent spillage of chemical substances in an industry after the incident.
“It’s like a rescue appliance for the firemen dealing with emergency services in chemical industries,” he said.
He said a separate unit with 36 commandos would rush to the spot along with fire tenders and help people trapped in the fire.
“We may get new equipment within a few months as tender process is already completed,” Mr. Khan said.
