HYDERABAD: This year’s country’s largest Information, Communication and Technology exposition (INFOCOM) will be held from November 28 to December 1 here at Hi-tec City. D. D. Purkayastha, CEO, Anand Bazaar Patrika and organising secretary, INFOCOM - 2007, stated at a press conference here on Friday that the expo would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Its theme would be ‘service excellence through ICT’. Organised by ‘Businessworld’ in partnership with CeBIT, the largest trade fair organiser in IT and telecom solutions, this is the first time that such an event is being organised outside Kolkata, where it has been held every year since 2002. SponsorshipThe event is being sponsored by over 60 companies, including IBM, WIPRO, Microsoft and several non-IT firms like Vodafone. About 350 exhibitors, including those from China, Turkey, Canada are expected to showcase products and services, as against 200 last year. The volume of business this year is expected to be Rs. 10 crore, Rs. 4 crore more than in 2006. Mr. Purkayastha explained that the purpose of the expo was to provide a platform to the IT industry - software, hardware and telecom segments and enable them to interact with users and providers of ‘cutting-edge technology’. The idea was to propagate IT awareness, display the country’s prowess in the area, leverage IT for business benefits and expose users to the latest know-how. There will be events like a round table on IT-enabled infrastructure .
