I didn’t name Kumaraswamy: BJP Minister

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: Karnataka Tourism Minister B. Sriramulu of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday said he did not name Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy in the attempt-to-murder complaint he made to the police here.

“The question of accusing Mr. Kumaraswamy does not arise at all and I have not mentioned his name,” he told The Hindu here.

Following the filing of the complaint, talks between the Janata Dal (Secular) and the BJP on transfer of power were suspended.

(On Wednesday, Mr. Sriramulu filed the complaint in the Cowl Bazaar police station mentioning the names of Mr. Kumaraswamy, his political secretary N. Suryanarayana Reddy, a few JD (S) leaders including Mullangie Ravindra Babu, Chairman of the Bellary Urban Development Authority, and Sandeep Patil, Additional Superintendent of Police, accusing them of hatching a criminal conspiracy to murder him.)

‘Misuse of power’

Mr. Sriramulu said his anger was directed at the Chief Minister’s political secretary and others, who, he alleged, were trying to misuse power in the name of the Chief Minister, and he would proceed against them. However, he did not say whether he would file a fresh complaint against them.

“The Chief Minister, as the head of the family, should treat all equally. In case Cabinet colleagues commit mistakes, he should guide us and help us correct the mistakes. I have spoken to our party leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, in this regard. They have advised me not to take any extreme step and instead get the issues resolved through discussions. Our leaders have spoken to the Chief Minister, who has promised to take steps to control Suryanarayana Reddy,” Mr. Sriramulu said.

To quit after local body elections

He said he would put in his papers after the elections to the urban local bodies in protest against the “misuse of power” by JD (S) leaders in Bellary and the attack on BJP workers.

Mr. Sriramulu said he did not want to be blamed for the fall of the coalition government.
