NEW DELHI: Debabrata Biswas, MP and general secretary of the All India Forward Bloc, on Friday accused the UPA government of violating the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) and implementing the U.S. agenda. “The government is making agreements with the U.S. in agriculture, defence, power and economic sectors, detrimental to the interests of the country. In the nuclear deal, the government is succumbing to the pressure of imperialism and misguiding the whole nation,” Mr. Biswas said. He said the 123 Agreement could not be treated as an ordinary civilian nuclear cooperation accord. Addressing a rally organised by the All India Youth League, the youth wing of the Forward Bloc, to mark the centenary of Bhagat Singh, he said the 123 Agreement was under the provisions of the Hyde Act as passed by the U.S. Congress. “The government will be under compulsion to submit an annual report on India’s nuclear activities to the U.S. President. It shows that we are abandoning our time-tested independent foreign policy based on the Non-Aligned Movement.”
