AP teams make it to the final

KAKINADA: Andhra Pradesh and Kerala entered the boys’ final for the Narang Cup, while Karnataka will clash with AP in the girls’ final for the Shafi Qureshi Cup in the Chundru Govinda Raju South Zone inter-State badminton championship.

In the men’s section on Friday, Tamil Nadu and Kerala made it to the last four defeating Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands 3-0 respectively. Tamil Nadu women too entered the semifinal blanking Puducherry 3-0. AP’s junior international Guru Sai Dutt gave his team a flying start beating TN’s V.N. Satyanarayana Rao 21-10, 21-12.

The doubles clash was a one-sided affair as junior India players Guru and Tarun easily beat Velavan and Mohammad Ameer 21-9, 21-3.

Sikki Reddy played a crucial role in AP’s triumph winning the first singles against Kerala’s Tulasi 19-21, 2-15, 21-10 and later she and Shruthi slammed the door on Kerala defeating Tulasi-Parvathy 21-19, 21-15. In a mismatch, Karnataka defeated Puducherry 2-0 to enter the final.

The results: Semifinals: Boys: AP bt Tamil Nadu 2-0 (V. Guru Sai Dutt bt V.N. Satyanarayana Rao 21-10, 21-12; V. Guru Sai Dutt & R. Tarun bt V. Velavan & Mohammad Ameer 21-9, 21-13).

Kerala bt Karnataka 2-1 (Vishnu Prasad lost to Adtiya Prakash 21-11, 21-9; Suraj & Vijay bt Arup Kiran & Prateek Khurana 21-16, 25-23; B. Antony bt Prakash Jolly 21-12, 21-19).

Girls: AP bt Kerala 2-0 (Sikki Reddy bt P.C. Tulasi 19-21, 21-15, 21-10; Sikki & Shruthi bt P.C. Tulasi & Parvathy 21-19, 21-15). Karnataka bt Puducherry 2-0 (Ruth Mishra bt B. Jaya Bharathi 21-19, 21-6; Nischita & Nitya Sosle bt Rebecca & Avanti Ashok 21-10, 21-9).

Quarterfinals: Men: Kerala bt Andaman & Nicobar 3-0 (K.A. Anish bt Uday Kumar 21-5, 21-6; Antony Jacob bt Pratik Bhattacharya 21-7, 21-6; Jassel P. Ismail & Markose Bristow bt S.P. Kannan & Alagar Swamy 21-7, 21-6).

Tamil Nadu bt Puducherry 3-0 (Siddhartha Jain bt P. Eghilarisan 21-8, 21-6; Jerry Martin bt Thirumal Priyan 21-12, 21-8; N. Venkatesh & Malik Jalal bt Losious Vijay & Silambrarasan 21-16, 21-19).
