Reception held in Rashtrapati Bhavan after five years
NEW DELHI: President Pratibha Patil on Friday hosted an ‘iftar’ at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The ‘iftar’ was held after a gap of five years in the Rashtrapati Bhavan as her predecessor A.P.J. Abdul Kalam preferred to make donations to the charities.
Vice President Hamid Ansari, United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan, Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Prithviraj Chavan were among the dignitaries present. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh could not attend as he is recuperating from surgery. Special arrangements were made separately for men and women to offer prayers. An elaborate dinner was laid out and “Meerutwalli Roti” was much in demand. Ms. Patil and and Ms. Gandhi were seen going around and interacting with the invitees.
