Patiala: Thirty-five people, including 33 women, were arrested on Saturday for allegedly ransacking and looting the local office of a Punjabi daily for publishing a news item against their religious head. About 50 men and women, belonging to a religious sect--Divya Jyoti Sangthan, ransacked the office of the daily, published from Chandigarh, SSP S.K. Asthana said. The SSP said that they also burnt the computers, fax, telephones and the copies of newspapers, besides smashing the doors of the office and shattering the windows panes. Hardeep Singh, a staffer of the daily alleged that the attackers have looted Rs 2 lakh cash from the office. PTI
