ANANTAPUR: Anantapur district is maintaining its lead in the implementation of Aarogya Sri community health insurance scheme in the State. The scheme is being implemented as a pilot project in Anantapur, Mahabubnagar and Srikakulam district for the current financial year. Medical campsThe State Government has already announced spreading the scheme to entire State from the next financial year. Of the 451 medical camps conducted for identification of the poor with chronic health problems which would required surgical intervention as part of the treatment in the three districts from April 1 this year to September 27, 183 camps were held in Anantapur, followed by 157 in Mahabubnagar and 111 in Srikakulam. Similarly, the participation of hospital in the medical camps was also high in Anantapur with 253, followed by 214 in Mahabubnagar and 193 in Srikakulam, according to Collector N. Sridhar. Of the 1, 22, 779 diagnosed for chronic health problems 10, 963 were recommended for surgical intervention. In Anantapur, 4, 234 were selected for surgeries out of 45,908 diagnosed in health camps, followed by 3, 511 out of 39, 309 in Mahabubnagar and 3, 218 out of 37, 562 in Srikakulam. Another 18,048 persons were given treatment in hospitals as in-patients and out-patients with 7, 090 in Anantapur, 6, 274 in Mahabubnagar and 4, 684 in Srikakulam. Of the 5, 190 surgeries conducted so far, 2, 069 were from Anantapur followed by 1, 643 from Srikakulam and 1, 478 in Mahabubnagar. Of the patients operated upon so far from Anantapur, 298 were children, 1, 035 were men and 736 women. Of them, 1, 312 were operated upon for heart-related problems, 321 for cancer, 228 for brain, 68 for kidneys, 16 for burns and 124 others.
