‘Congress ignoring Jat aspirations’

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: Former Union Minister Jagdeep Dhankar has described the Congress party overlooking the claims of a Jat leader for appointment to the post of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president as an “insult to the community”.

“The Congress party, by denying a position he deserved to a leader of the community, has once again proved its indifference to Jats,” he charged.

In a statement released here, Mr. Dhankar, who has not been very active in the Bharatiya Janata Party after joining it prior to the Rajasthan Assembly elections, said when the All-India Congress Committee picked up youths from all other communities for promoting young leadership, the claim of Jat leaders was overlooked.

Obviously Mr. Dhankar, a former Congressman himself, is referring to the Congress leadership overlooking the claim of Harendra Mirdha for the post of the PCC chief. The PCC president’s post went to C.P. Joshi while Mr. Mirdha, in the bargain, was made the party’s national secretary. Mr. Dhankar’s open support to the BJP-led Government here also comes in the wake of a growing confrontation between certain Jat leaders and Chief Minister Vasudhara Raje. Mr. Dhankar in his statement gave credit for the current progress of the Jat community in economic and social spheres to the BJP, which granted the Other Backward Community (OBC) status to it some time ago.
