Nuclear deal vital for growth: Sibal

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal said on Saturday that the India-U.S. civil nuclear deal was necessary to support country’s growth and development in the next few decades and it was all about ‘bijlee’ (electricity) and not Bush.

Participating in a meeting organised by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said that India had not bartered anything and the deal would not undermine the country’s sovereignty.

Energy crisis

He said that the deal would give India the flexibility to buy nuclear fuel not only from the U.S. but also from other countries like France and Russia and it would help in overcoming the energy crisis looming before the country.
