Inquiry report within three months: Basu

Staff Reporter

Kolkata: The judicial inquiry committee probing the mysterious death of 30-year-old computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rehman, whose body was found lying by the side of railway track near here on September 21, will submit its findings to the State government within three months, veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu said here on Saturday.

Mr. Basu said West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had given him the assurance.

Doubts had been raised in certain circles about the efficacy of a judicial probe, which tends to be protracted.

Mr. Bhattacharjee had earlier ordered an investigation by the State’s Criminal Investigation Department. Rehman had married the daughter of an influential city businessman reportedly against her family’s wishes.
