Good progress in Kochi for ODI

Principal Correspondent

KOCHI: Taposh Chatterjee, the BCCI Pitches and Grounds Committee member, saw good progress at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the venue of the second one-dayer of the Future Cup Series between India and Australia here on October 2.

“The situation was alarming when I came here early this week. Now, it’s much better but the outfield needs improvement,” said the former Ranji player after inspecting the venue on Saturday evening.

“The outfield is soft, it needs to harden up, you can say another hundred per cent. And the practice wicket needs a lot of working on.”

After the overnight rain, the bright sunshine on Saturday helped improve the situation in a big way.

The stadium will be on maximum security alert on the match day, said the City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham.

A 3,000-strong police force, including 30 assistant commissioners, 49 circle inspectors and 295 sub-inspectors, will be on duty. There will also be closed-circuit televisions installed at various points to monitor the crowd movement.

Ticket sales

Meanwhile, the ticket sales at the Indian Overseas Bank branches ended on Saturday. They will be sold at the Nehru Stadium from Sunday.

The figures have been very impressive and tickets worth Rs. 70 lakh have already been sold till Friday evening, with the higher denomination tickets moving very fast, said P.M. Veeramani, the tickets committee convener.
